Key Lab of Inbreeding Strain for Xishuangbanna Mini Pig

Key Lab of Inbreeding Strain for Xishuangbanna Mini Pig was founded in the year of 2003 after the ratification of Science & Technology Department, Planning Committee, Finance Department, and Education Department of Yunnan Province. It was the time when the mini pig had been into the 18th generation and its inbreeding coefficient reached 97.9%.

Supported by the Breeder Seed Site of Xishuangbanna and the Foundation Seed Site of Kunming, the Key Lab comprises research divisions like the Experimental Animalization of Inbreeding Strain Lab, Genetics and Molecular Biology Lab, the Physiological and Biochemical Foundation Lab, Cell and Embryo Engineering Lab, Gene Knockout and Transgenic Lab, Xenotransplantation Lab, Inbreeding Strain Industrial Research and Development Center, Cryopreservation Room and Data and Information Room. It has developed into a systematic and integrated research and development body with a resource foundation of nearly 30 substrains from the Xishuangbanna Mini Pig Inbreeding Lines.

Xishuangbanna Mini Pig Inbreeding Lines are the first inbreeding strains of the large experimental mammalian animal successfully bred in the world. After nearly 30 years of highly inbreeding, the coefficient has already reached over 99.95%. With the progress of industrialization and fundamental theoretical research, Xishuangbanna Mini Pig Inbreeding Lines will supply the life science fields in China and the world, like biomedicine research, Xenotransplantation, and transgenic animal study, with a large mammalian experimental animal inbreeding line featured by highly homozygous genes, clear genetic background and genetic diversity. And it will gradually develop into a very special biotechnology industry.

Yunnan Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science (YKLANFS)

Yunnan Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science (YKLANFS) serves as a center for research which increase livestock productivity of Yunnan province China and Southeast Asia. Since its establishment in 1998, YKLANFS has grown considerably. As of December 2013, it has more than 20 faculty members and staff spread across 6 scientific research groups. YKLANFS has several outstanding research platforms, including Ruminant nutrition laboratory, Non- Ruminant nutrition laboratory, Molecular nutrition and metabolism laboratory, Feed processing and security laboratory, Livestock products quality control laboratory and embryo bioengineering laboratory.

YKLANFS were given the right to award masters degrees and doctoral degrees of animal nutrition and feed Science in china. About 200 post-graduate students, including several international students, work and study in YKLANFS.
