Located in the East Campus of Yunnan Agricultural University (YNAU), College of Economics and Management (CEM) is an important base in Yunnan preparing managerial talents of agricultural economy. Up to September 2013, there are 2044 full time students, 1796 of them being undergraduates.
The current Dean of the college is Pro. Zhao Yaqiao, and the CPC secretary of the college is Pro. Peng Jiping.
Collegeof Economicsand Management dates back to 1950 when it was known as the Agroeconomics Research Group in the Agricultural College of Yunnan University (YNU). CEM made the transition from a research group of YNU to a department in YNAU with the establishment of YNAU Department of Agricultural Economics in 1984. The department then evolved into YNAU College of Economics and Trade in January, 1995, which was officially renamed as College of Economics and Management in December, 2008. CEM provided the Bachelor program for Management of Agricultural Economy and enrolled its first undergraduate students in 1986 and its first postgraduate students in 1997.
2. Mission and Values
A commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching and research. While focusing on the basic theories and skills of economics and management, CEM also stresses the education in math, foreign languages, computer, biological sciences and humanistic studies. CEM endeavors to build itself as an institution recognized nationally and internationally for excellent education and research. It also aims at preparing highly qualified professionals who are versatile, adaptive and creative.
3. Teaching Facilities and Resources
CEM has 3 laboratories, more than 100 sets of computers, a College Library with a collection of more than 70,000 professional books and periodicals, and teaching and research equipments worth 2.354 million yuan.
We offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in forestry economics and management, economics, rural and regional development, information system, e-commerce and administration management. We're also recognized for influential researches across the six areas of focus. Up to October, 2013, there are 2044 full time students (including 1796 undergraduates, 154 graduates and 19 international students) and 809 correspondence students in CEM.
Our courses have a distinct practical focus, most of them involving vocational training or working experience. We are cooperating with a dozen companies to provide internship and mentoring programs to our students. As a result, C.E.M graduates are job-ready and prepared, with skills that enable them to make a genuine and positive influence in a continuously changing world.
The CEM faculty consists of 10 professors, 26 associate professors, and 28 lecturers. Among them, 10 teachers have a doctor’s degree, and 34 are holding a master’s degree. Some of them have oversea study experience in Britain, France, Thailand and Australia.
The CEM faculty is of different ages and represents many disciplines, many methods, and many perspectives. By bringing together a diverse group that is able to consider issues through different perspectives, CEM is able to create new and innovative solutions to economic and managerial problems.
5. Research achievement
Up to September, 2013, our faculty members have produced 615 academic papers, 247 of which are published in key publications in China. We have conducted more than 20 international cooperation projects, 5 national research projects, and over 65 provincial and ministerial projects. Besides, we have also cooperated with other organizations in 11 national and dozens of provincial research projects.
