A Brief Introduction to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences

The College of Humanities and Social Scienceswas formerly known as Marxism-Leninism teaching and research section in Yunnan Agricultural University. To promote its development, Yunnan Agricultural University established the Department of social sciences in 1991 on the basis of Marxism-Leninism teaching and research section. In 1993, it was renamed as the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2001, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences was set up.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is mainly responsible for the teaching tasks of common required courses for the whole students in YAU.

At present, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has 45 teachers, among which 3 are professors, 10 are associate professors, 30 are lecturers and 2 are assistants. 44 teachers have got master or higher degree, among which 6 have gained doctoral degree, 1 PhD and 1 master are in hospital currently.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is now composed of four departments: Department of Tourism Management, Department of Social Work, Department of Secretary of Education, Department of Public utilities management. The college can give master degree in the major of national agricultural extension (areas to promote the agricultural science and technology organization and service).

The college has formed a multi-level comprehensive modern unit combined teaching and researching which centered on undergraduate education, supported by graduate education, based on common required courses and supplemented by adult education.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences emphasizes the integration of theory with practice. Aiming at the need of Yunnan frontier actually and social development, it makes of full of its own geography advantage of Yunnan province and conducts a series of distinctive teaching reform and research activities, which effectively promote the development of humanities and social sciences.
