Schoolof Marxism is the secondary educational and administrative institution under the leading and directing of University Administration, and it is also the supporting institute of Marxism-Leninism theory discipline of the University. It was initially known as the Teaching and Research Office for Marxism in Yunnan Agricultural University and was changed to Department of Social Science in 1991. In 1993 it was renamed to the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2001, School of Humanities and Social Sciences was set up. In April 2011 the Department of Ideological and Political Theory was established independently and it was finally renamed to the School of Marxism in May 2013.
Schoolof Marxismnow shoulders the reform and teaching task of ideological and political theoretical courses for undergraduates, postgraduate and doctoral students of the whole University. It opens the courses such as “Principles of Marxism Philosophy” “Sketch of Mao Zedong Thought and Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics” “Outline of Modern and Contemporary History of China”, “Ideological and Moral culture and Legal Basis”, “Situation and Policy education”, “’Sansheng’ Education”, and other related selected courses for undergraduates. It opens the common required courses such as “Natural Dialectics”, “Study on the theory and practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics”, “Chinese Marxism and Contemporary Era” for postgraduate and doctoral students.
Schoolof Marxismis now composed of six teaching and research offices, two research institutes (centers) and three service offices. The teaching and research offices include the Office of Principles of Marxism Philosophy, Office of Sketch of Mao Zedong Thought and Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese characteristics, Office of Outline of Modern and Contemporary History of China, Office of Ideological and Moral culture and Legal Basis, Office of Situation and Policy education, Office of “Sansheng” Education. Two research institutes (centers) are the Research Institute of History of Science and Technology and the Research Center of Marxism and the issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers. Three services offices are: the Office of Communist Party and masses, Integrated Office, Degrees-granting and Postgraduate Students Education office
Schoolof Marxismhas a qualified faculty of 35 full-time teachers and researchers, including 5 full professors, 13 associate professors, 12 lecturers and teaching assistant. The number of teachers who get the postgraduate degree and doctoral degree accounts for 78%. Additionally, it has a part-time teaching staff which consists of ten members.
Schoolof Marxismhas four master’s degree authorization centers, covering the following majors: Principles of Marxism Philosophy, History of Science and Technology, History of Chinese Local Agricultural Science and Technology, History of Ethnic Science and Technology. Currently enrolled master’s students are more than 100. Besides, it enrolls the on-job postgraduates of agricultural extension, focusing on the new rural construction in the field of agricultural infrastructure.
