Department of Ecological Environment
Department of ecological environment, college of resources and environment, Yunnan Agricultural University was found in 2001 from merging of environment science laboratory and microbiology laboratory, college of agriculture. Junior students majored on agricultural environmental protection were recruited from 1990 to 1999. Undergraduate students majored on environmental science have been recruited since 2000. Master students majored on environmental science have been recruited since 2004. Undergraduate students majored on environmental engineering have been recruited since 2012. Master students majored on environmental engineering have been recruited since 2012. Undergraduate students majored on ecology will been recruited in 2014.
2. Teaching staff
At present, there are 13 teachers, including 1 new millennium talents of China, 3 academic leaders of Yunnan Province, 1 teaching master of Yunnan Province, 1 deputy director of steering committee on environmental protection ministry of education, 3 Ph.D supervisors, 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 advanced experimentalist, 9 with Ph.D and 7 with master degree. The ratio of staff with Ph.D and master degree to total staff is 92.3%. The teaching team of agricultural environmental protection has been awarded provincial level teaching team.
3. Teaching and scientific research platform
Teaching and scientific research platforms in department of ecological environment include national level teaching centre of agricultural science basic experiments, innovating training basic of environmental science and engineering of Yunnan Province, the key laboratory of agricultural resources and environments of university in Yunnan Province, the key laboratory of agricultural environment pollution and ecological restoration of Yunnan Province, environmental science laboratory, ecological environment institute of Yunnan agricultural university, environmental monitoring station of Yunnan Province which is teaching practice base outside.
4. Students cultivation
Junior students 330 majored on agricultural environmental protection were graduated from 1990 to 1999. Undergraduate students majored on environmental science have graduated more than 600 since 2000. The major of environmental science was evaluated as characteristic specialty of Yunnan agricultural university. Master students majored on environmental science have graduated more than 60 since 2004. Undergraduate students majored on environmental engineering have been recruited since 2012. Master students majored on environmental engineering have been recruited since 2012. Undergraduate students majored on ecology will been recruited in 2014.
5. Achievements on teaching research
5.1 Textbook compilation
Some textbooks have been editor in chief, including Environmental Ecology (national programming textbook at the 11th five-year plan of higher education), Agricultural Environmental Science(national programming textbook at the 11th five-year plan of higher education on agriculture and forest), Practice Guide on Environmental Science and Engineering, Experimental Guide on Environmental Science, Environmental Pollution and Food Security, Theory and Practice on protected agriculture, Soil Environmental Protection and UV radiation Ecology. Some textbooks have been subeditor including Soil Contamination and its Controland Environmental Science(national programming textbook at the 11th five-year plan of higher education on agriculture and forest), Environmental Ecology(recommended textbook through steering committee on environmental protection ministry of education),Environmental Biology(textbookfacing onthe 11th five-year plan), Experimental Methods and Statistic Analysis and Plant Nutrient Science. Some ten textbooks were participated in writing. A whole textbook system on theory-experiments-practice has been established.
Pollution Ecologyparticipated in writing was rewarded the second prize of excellent textbook of university in China. Environmental Ecologyand Agricultural Environmental Science (editor in chief) were rewarded the prize of excellent textbook in Yunnan Province.
5.2 Curricula construction
The course Environmental Ecology has been constructed as high-quality curriculum of provincial and university levels. The courses Agricultural Microbiology andEnvironmental Microbiology have been constructed as the first curriculum in Yunnan agricultural University. Courses of Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Pollution and Food Security are constructing as the first curriculum in Yunnan agricultural University.
Some teachers have honors, including the first prize of competition of classroom teaching of university in Yunnan Province in 2003, the third prize of multi-media teaching software in Yunnan Province in 2007, the third prize of multi-media teaching software in Yunnan agricultural University in 2009, the second prize of competition of classroom teaching of Yunnan agricultural University in 2009 and the third prize of competition of classroom teaching of Yunnan agricultural University in 2007.
5.3 Teaching achievements
Some programs on education reform have been taken charged including “Research on practice system reform of environmental science” and “Research on special thinking and quality-oriented education of students based on network environment”. The articles on education reform are more than ten. The achievements on “The theory and practice of education reform of environmental science in agricultural universities” was reward the second prize of excellent research of education in Yunnan agricultural University in 2008 and the third prize of excellent research of education in Yunnan Province in 2009.
The Department of Land Resource Management
The Department of Land Resource Management is a leading academic organization for Land science education and research. The Department's focus is on land planning, engineering geology, engineering surveys, real estate, land basic theory, land law and land policy for a wide range of applications. These include map-making, budget, monitoring of engineering projects and geological hazards, environmental monitoring and geographic information management.
The Department has a suite of well-equipped laboratories supporting study and research in the area of digital cartography, GPS-RTK and engineering surveys. Students and researchers will be working with these state of the art facilities, internal and internationally renowned teaching staff. They will have a variety of opportunities in both research and practical work. Therefore, they are skilled in MapGIS, ArcGIS, Cass, CAD, and PS.
Our students are able to apply theories in practice as our projects are application oriented. Our research work is of an applied nature and is relevant to agricultural, industrial, commercial and community needs. Through our partnerships and consultancy work with business and industry as well as our community service work, the Department maintains close relationships with the professions ability. Our research and courses are therefore oriented towards the needs of agricultural arable land management of China.
