The history of Collegeof Water Resourcesand Hydraulic Engineeringcan traceback to the Irrigation and Water Conservancy Department ofYunnan AgriculturalLabor University in 1965.The Water Resource and Hydroelectric Engineering Specialty was establishedwith the Department of Hydraulic Engineering founded in May 1966, which is the first higher education Department of Water Resources and Hydropower in Yunnan Province.In 1993, theDepartment of the HydraulicEngineeringand the AgriculturalMachinerywas mergedinto Engineering and Technology College.In 2001, the Collegeof Hydraulic and Architectural Engineeringwas established and renamed asCollege of Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineeringin 2013.
At present, the college consists of 3 departments: the Department of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, the Department of Water Resources and Water Environment Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering, and 5 undergraduate majors: Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agriculture and Water Conservancy Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation and Desertification Control, Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering. The Department of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering is graded by the Ministry of Education as the comprehensive pilot reform ofundergraduatemayor (the First Batch), and graded by Yunnan Province as the key disciplines of theordinary universitygroup, the Program with Distinctive Features in higher education, the construction profession ofOutstanding Engineers Training Plan and the comprehensive reform major. And meanwhile, the department of Civil Engineering is the construction profession of theOutstanding Engineers Training Plan in Yunnan Province.
The experimental center includes the provincial basic profession experimental teachingcenter of Agricultural Engineering，the school-class basic profession experimental teachingcenter of Engineering (including Material and Structure Laboratory, Geotechnical Laboratory and Measurement Laboratory)and professional experiment teaching center (including Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Water-saving Irrigation , Hydraulic Experimental Teaching Center, Geographic Information System(GIS) and Remote Sensing(RS) Laboratory). There are some training bases in campus which includes “the Design Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower” and “the Science Research Center of Land Resources”. The off-campus practice bases are as follows: “Songhua Dam Reservoir of Kunming”, “DaChun River Soil, Water Conservation Demonstration Garden of Jinning”, “Water-saving Irrigation Demonstration Garden in Kirin District, Qujing ”,“ Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction of Yunnan Construction Engineering Group co. LTD”. Moreover, it also has the following scientific research and practical platform: the “Frontier Minority Entrepreneurial Training Mode Innovative Experimental Areas” of Agricultural Engineering at the national and provincial level, “the Water Resources and Water-saving Irrigation Engineering Research Center of universities of Yunnan Province”, “the Engineering Laboratory of Land Use and Protection of Yunnan Province”, “the Irrigation Test Center of Yunnan Province”, “the Agricultural Water-saving Engineering Technology Research Center of Yunnan Province”. The Designated Water Conservancy Industry Training Institution of Ministry of Water Resources is also attached to the college.
The collegehas a faculty of 84, including 77 full-time teachers，1 provincial famous teacher, 2 school-class famous teachers, 6 professors, 29 associate professors. The college has the master's degrees of Agricultural Engineeringinfirst level discipline, the Agricultural Soil-water Engineering and Agricultural Hydraulic Structure in secondary level discipline, and the professional degree in agricultural engineering field.
Currently, there are 1803 undergraduate students and 54 graduate students in our college. The Year-end employment rate of college grads is 97.34 percent in 2012, and increased to 98.87 percent in 2013. Since 1965, over 7000 professional personof Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering have been trained. Lots of our students have been the leadership and technical backbone in thedepartments of agriculture, water affairs and architecture, who have made prominentcontributions to the construction of our province.
