YAU focuses on the development of modern agriculture and carries out scientific research guided by the needs of national and regional economic and social development. With a scientific research fund of 1.65 billion yuan, the university has successively undertaken more than 3,715 projects, including the United Nations global environment fund, EU projects, national plan 973, national plan 863, national key R&D plan, science and technology support plan and national fund key projects. Agricultural biodiversity control of diseases and insect pests
Academician Zhu Youyong's team created the theory and technology of agricultural biodiversity control of diseases and insect pests. The research results were published as a cover article in Nature, and have been popularized and applied in a large area of 201,333 km2 in China, which was a break-through to tackle the problem of single planting of crop varieties.
"Three line" matching of hybrid japonica rice
Professor Li Zhengyou and his team took the lead in breeding the first male sterile line of rice in China, and first invented the "three line" matching of hybrid japonica rice in China, won the award of the National Science Conference, set a world record of 1108.55kilograms per unit yield of hybrid japonica rice, led a team to breed more than 40 varieties and promoted more than 20,000km2.
Gene editing and somatic cloning technology
Professor Wei Hongjiang's team constructed gene editing and somatic cloning technology, cooperated with the United States to obtain the world's first batch of endogenous retro-viral inactivated cloned pigs, published as a cover article in Science, and obtained a variety of small pig disease models.
Tea genome database
Professor Sheng Jun and his team devoted in tea and other characteristic biological resources, having established the tea genome database, systematically explained the origin and evolution of tea plant and the migration rule of tea plant genes, expounded the mechanism of reducing blood fat, lowering blood sugar and slowing down the complications of diabetes, developed the series of deep processed products of Pu' er tea, and explored new resources such as Moringa oleifera, Dendrobium candidum and Maca, which has achieved innovation and led the industrial upgrading anddevelopment.
